Teeth Whitening

A Smile You Can Feel Confident About

Are you unhappy with the color of your teeth? Even if you regularly brush your teeth, some habits can cause teeth to appear more yellow than normal. Smoking, red wine, and poor oral hygiene are some of the causes of teeth beginning to lose their enamel and appear less white.

When dental enamel wears off, teeth start to turn yellow. Enamel also wears off due to acidic food, genetics, natural aging, and such. As the yellow layer appears, your teeth start looking weak and unhealthy.

The Need for Teeth Whitening

Did you know that enamel erosion is irreversible? With every mistake you make with your dental hygiene, you lose a layer of your enamel, and the yellow core called dentin starts to appear brighter and brighter.

You can prevent the enamel from wearing off with good dental hygiene practice. As for yellow teeth that have already emerged, teeth whitening is your best solution.

Say Goodbye to Yellow Teeth

There are several ways to get rid of yellow teeth, from at-home whitening strips to in-office treatments, and toothpaste or gels to whitening rinses. Most of these treatments promise whiter, brighter teeth. But not every therapy gives you the results you desire. Toothpaste, gels, and rinses have minimal effects as they are not exposed to your teeth long enough. While at-home whitening strips may give you the result you desire, they can prove to be dangerous if the instructions are not followed correctly. Teeth whitening by a qualified dentist is your best solution because it is safe and gives proven results.

Teeth Whitening Procedures

There are different types of teeth whitening systems that Dr. Monica Patel provides at Smilebar by the Matthews Dentist:

  • At-home care: A dentist prescribed take-home whitening products are safer and more productive than over-the-counter whitening products. Your dentist may prescribe at-home care based on the health of your teeth. You will receive a custom-made whitening tray. You will fill them with whitening gel with a lower concentration of peroxide. Depending on your dentist’s instructions, you will wear the tray for 30 minutes to over an hour.
  • In-office whitening: In-office whitening gives the most dramatic result for teeth whitening. A whitening gel with a stronger concentration of peroxide is applied to your teeth. An hour or less later, the gel will break apart the bonds between stained molecules. Laser or specially formatted light is used to get optimal results. The laser or the high-power light will activate the gel and let oxygen penetrate your teeth thoroughly.
  • Deep bleaching: Deep bleaching combines in-office and at-home methods to achieve more dramatic results. This is the only method that targets both intrinsic and extrinsic stains. The results of this treatment are permanent, and stain-producing substances such as red wine or coffee will have no ill-effects on the color of your smile.
