Are You Due for a Dental Check-Up?

Even if you follow your dental hygiene regime very strictly, it is still recommended that you get a dental check-up every six months. Some dental issues come with noticeable symptoms while other dental problems may not exhibit any visible signs. We can check your teeth for common issues like cavities and gum disease, as well as screen for less common conditions such as oral cancer. Ensuring you have excellent dental health is our priority, so make sure you come in regularly for check-ups!

What Can I Expect During My Check-Up?

Having a dental check-up every six months can benefit your overall oral health. Your dentist will check for a cavity, tooth decay and any other noticeable symptoms that could lead to more significant problems. These check-ups also include:

  • Gum Disease Screening – Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. It is usually painless, and most patients don’t even know that they have it. It is a significant cause of tooth loss in adults. Before your dental cleaning begins, we will examine you for signs of gum disease. If you do have gum disease, we may recommend a deep cleaning instead of your regular teeth cleaning.
  • Dental Cleaning – Also known as teeth cleaning, this regular cleaning removes tartar build-up from your teeth and around your gums which cannot be removed with regular brushing. Dental cleaning prevents cavities, gingivitis and periodontal diseases.
  • Oral Cancer Screening – We look for any signs of oral cancer or precancerous condition, both inside and outside of your mouth. This screening generally takes about five minutes and can help save your life if cancerous signs are detected and treated quickly. The earlier any cancer is detected, the greater the chance for a cure.

Why are Regular Check-Ups So Important?

Not everyone looks forward to dentist appointments, but regular check-ups are important to have. There are several risks associated with poor dental hygiene. Not only can we spot trouble when it arises, but we may also be able to prevent it completely with regular dental visits and cleanings.

BEFORE & AFTER

Why Should You see Your Dentist Regularly?

  • A regular teeth-cleaning helps prevent gum disease.
  • A dental check-up prevents plaque, tartar, and cavities from invading your teeth.
  • A regular check-up helps prevent gingivitis or inflamed gums.
  • Helps prevent oral damage caused by smoking, grinding teeth, biting ice, abrasive brushing, sweets and other things.
  • Helps detect destructive diseases which otherwise show no symptoms.
  • A dental check-up also includes a thorough oral cancer screening.

At Craft Smiles, Dr. Monica Patel will ensure that your dental check-up covers all aspects of common dental health issues.

Why is Prevention of Gum Disease So Vital?

Gum disease is also referred to as periodontal disease. It is caused by plaque that gradually builds up on the teeth. Sometimes gum disease has no visible signs to the untrained eye, which is why it’s important to have regular dental check-ups.  Studies show a connection between gum disease and several systemic health issues, such as:

  • Heart Disease
  • Kidney Disease
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Diabetes
  • Osteoporosis
  • Cancer

There is no apparent cause and effect relationship between oral health and the above diseases, but it is always better to be cautious. Prevention and treatment may help avoid some of these diseases.

Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry deals with fixing any imperfections that may be present in your smile or the general appearance of your teeth. Restorative dentistry is focused on fixing problems such as damaged or missing teeth. While restorative dentistry keeps your mouth healthy and functioning, cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of your teeth. Cosmetic dentistry and restorative dentistry overlap each other. If you have any issues with your teeth such as a break, chip, or cavity, we can provide restorative & cosmetic dentistry. This means we can:

  • Fill cavities to prevent further decay.
  • Replace missing teeth with the help of implants, crowns or bridges.
  • Help strengthen broken or chipped teeth with a crowns or caps.
  • Provide teeth whitening service for a bright smile.
  • Fix small chips and discoloration with bonding.
  • Help restore the function of your teeth, sometimes with a filling or multiple fillings if needed.
  • Help restore the look of your teeth, especially if you have stains that aren’t easily addressed with cleaning.
  • Reshape your teeth or tooth by altering the position, width, length, or shape.
  • Contour your teeth with the help of veneers.

While we use restorative dentistry to fix major issues such as a broken tooth, cosmetic dentistry is used to put finishing touches on your new smile.
